We came across an interesting article on the Microsoft Dynamics Community blog called “ERP Evaluation Checklist for SMB’s: Insist on a business management solution that offers deployment flexibility and choice“. We liked the article but it perpetuates a myth about cloud computing. Here is what the article states:
But running your ERP and other systems on-premises offers its own potential advantages, including greater flexibility for customization if needed; the ability to keep physical control of your data; and easier integration with other business software you’re already running.
There are three points covered in that statement, and for clarity I’ll point them out in point-form:
- Greater flexibility
- Physical control of data
- Easier integration
We understand how the author’s premise might be true in a public cloud, but this is not the case in a WatServ private cloud.
For instance, our customers have complete access to their data. They have the same access to the data that they would have if the solution is on-premise. The customer can maintain local backups of their data if they wanted to. This isn’t something our customers need to do as we maintain a full bit level back-up solution for each customer, but they could if they wanted to.
Easy integration with business software is also possible with a WatServ cloud solution. In addition to making the integration easier, WatServ also stands behind the interoperability of the entire solution. There is no finger pointing here. Once a solution is up and running, the integration points need to be maintained. We provide this level of service to our clients and include and SLA around it. That is frequently not the case with an on-premise deployment. It has been our experience that on-premise deployments are best efforts only.
One of the advantages of a private cloud is that it can be as flexible as on-premise solution. Public cloud solutions or even straight SaaS solutions are not always as flexible.
As you can see a private cloud ERP deployment offers the advantages of an on-premise deployment and the advantages of a per user, per month cloud offering. Contact us to find out how we can help your organization move to the cloud.
