Are You Facing End of Support for SQL and Wondering What’s Next?

In recent months, Microsoft has been running a major campaign focused on migrating on-premise SQL Servers into Azure. Many companies are reevaluating the agility they require and how to find the flexibility, cost savings, and scale needed to expand in the future. Azure is the best place for SQL Server workloads and one look at the information on the Azure website gives many reasons why.
According to a study by Enterprise Strategy Group, customers who migrated their SQL Server data from on-premises to Azure Virtual Machines reduced their costs by up to 47 percent. Customers who continued to modernize their data from virtual machines to managed database services realized an additional 17 percent cost savings and an expected incremental $30M in new revenue due to faster release cycles.
These are all important statistics about SQL in Azure, but Principled Technologies, an independent research firm, recently published a study where they benchmarked SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server on Amazon Web Services (AWS) RDS across three different workloads. As you might expect, SQL Managed Instance emerged as the leader across each of these workloads, with up to five times faster performance while costing up to 93 percent less than AWS RDS.
If you are planning an Azure migration then it pays to get a trusted advisor on board with a real track record of helping many different companies across different industries. WatServ can point to multiple case studies and experience in this area, and we also have an Advanced Specialization from Microsoft for SQL and Windows Server Migration.
Even better is that you may qualify for funding from Microsoft. They are providing credits and resources to help partners and clients move faster and cheaper. There is the standard ECIF funding as well as the Azure Credits available through the AMMP program for SQL PaaS workloads.
If you still have critical business infrastructure running on out-of-support SQL then a cloud migration is becoming essential – or you will be relying on servers and software that is no longer supported. That’s a recipe for a security nightmare.
