Microsoft released DDoS numbers from the first half of the year, reporting a 25% increase in the average daily number of attack mitigations compared to Q4 of 2020. The average attack size also increased by 30%, from 250 Gbps to 325 Gbps. The United States, Europe and East Asia remained the most attacked regions due to their concentration of financial services and gaming industries.

Cybersecurity researchers have released the names of four emerging ransomware groups that could pose a serious threat to enterprises and critical infrastructure. This news comes as a recent string of ransomware incidents have shown the sophistication and damage capable of major attacks.

Microsoft announced the preview of at-scale, agentless discovery and assessment of ASP.NET web apps to help customers migrate ASP.NET web apps and run them natively on Azure App Service. With this preview, it is now easy to discover ASP.NET web apps running on Internet Information Services (IIS) servers in a VMware environment and assess them for migration to Azure App Service.

Microsoft announced multiple enhancements to the preview of the “Azure Migrate: App Containerization” tool to help customers easily containerize and migrate apps to AKS. The tool provides a templatized process to re-platform applications and accelerate the modernization journey with Azure. This comes after feedback received following the release of the preview at Microsoft Ignite earlier this year.
