Three Interesting Dynamics GP Takeaways from the 2019 User Group Summit

Recap of the 2019 User Group Summit in Kissimmee, FL

The WatServ Team returned from the 2019 User Group Summit a little over a week ago, yet we’re still buzzing with energy from the conversations we had, and from what we heard and saw in the ever-evolving world of Microsoft Dynamics.

If you stopped by our booth, thank you! We were delighted to welcome so many faces, both familiar and new, as we launched our all-new Dynamics GP as a Service.

Another thank you goes out to our very own VP of Sales, Tyler Doerner, for his engaging talk on “How to take GP to the cloud without your users noticing”. We received so much positive feedback after his talk that we’ve decided to share his insights in a forthcoming e-book – stay tuned!

Having had a little over a week now to reflect on the conference, we’ve compiled our top three takeaways from 2019 User Group Summit that relate to Dynamics GP.

Three Interesting Dynamics GP Takeaways from the 2019 User Group Summit

1. Dynamics GP customers aren’t rushing to migrate to Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Although Microsoft offers Dynamics 365 Business Central as a cloud ERP offering for SMBs, we saw that most Dynamics GP customers aren’t rushing to migrate to it. They reported that this is due to the fact that there’s no direct upgrade path from GP to D365 and that they love their GP! They’re hesitant to re-invent their ISV solution (since the ISV community isn’t the same in D365) and they’re not keen on replacing their structured general ledger with a new dimensional ledger.

The outcome? This trend means that Dynamics GP customers are continuing to invest and maintain the ERP solution they know and love.

2. Dynamics GP customers are slowly willing to host their GP in the cloud instead of on premise.

That being said, Dynamics GP customers are showing an increased interest in hosting their GP applications in the cloud. They recognize the benefits of moving away from on-premise hosting to gain advantages of the cloud such as auto-scaling, recovery and back-up, advanced security, spend optimization and better access to analytics, cloud-native tools, logging processes, software freedom and much more.

Although SMBs face unique challenges that make migration to the cloud seem difficult, more and more companies are realizing that the benefits outweigh the effort needed to make the switch, and that – with the support of the right partner – moving to the cloud isn’t as hard as they thought it would be.

3. Dynamics GP Partners are faced with the challenge of building a hosting practice or finding a partner who knows both the application and infrastructure.

As more GP customers want to migrate to the cloud, Dynamics GP Partners are faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to offer managed hosting, in addition to their core services. Often times, the decision boils down to whether a company has internal resources and capacity to build a full-fledged hosting practice or whether they want to outsource the responsibilities so they can focus on their core service offerings.

At the conference, we were interested to learn that many Dynamics GP Partners are going the route of partnering with other providers who specialize in managed hosting – much like we do at WatServ. In fact, we had dozens of conversations with GP Partners on this topic and we were proud to showcase our experience as the largest global provider of hosting and advanced managed services for Microsoft Dynamics GP.

What is your take on these issues? And what changes do you foresee coming in 2020 as these trends either intensify or diminish?

To continue the conversation, or learn more about our Dynamics GP as a Service, get in touch today.

The Best Business Software Doesn’t Always Have a Hefty Price Tag

The Best Business Software Doesn’t Always Have a Hefty Price Tag

By WatServ
October 11, 2016
Large businesses need a management solution that can support all of the moving parts of the enterprise, not some of them. Using disparate, specialty software can be risky as data easily gets lost or altered when it’s transcribed from one software system into another. A cloud-based modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution is more affordable than you think and can save you money in the long run. Businesses often default to specialty software because they serve a specific purpose – accounting software for financials, inventory software to keep track of incoming and outgoing inventory, and the like. However, with data in separate software systems, it’s difficult to reach and, in many cases, difficult to trust. Redundant data entry between systems opens the door to typos, errors, lost data or other mistakes.

Making business decisions based on outdated, inaccurate data will quickly lead to expensive mistakes.

Replace Specialty Software with Cloud-Based Microsoft Dynamics AX

Replacing inefficient software with a modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution doesn’t have to be costly, take years to plan, or require a team of IT experts. A cloud-based deployment, like Microsoft Dynamics AX, greatly reduces capital expenses and time. You don’t need to replace aging infrastructure or equipment, which can be one of the most significant costs with a system upgrade. You can scale user licenses to fit your headcount; paying a per user, per month price. Your team also gains greater mobility by accessing Microsoft Dynamics AX anywhere, anytime through a web browser on laptops, tablets or smartphones. Microsoft Dynamics AX is a comprehensive, integrated business management solution supporting financial transactions, inventory and supplier management, manufacturing and distribution activities, human resources and payroll, as well as other core operations. This centralized solution streamlines data entry, access, and analytics. Workflows save time and improve the consistency of common tasks. Business intelligence and reporting features provide leaders with the data needed to make smart decisions and strengthen regulatory compliance. With cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics AX, you can monitor all of the moving parts of your business with greater efficiency, improving productivity and profitability. Replacing inefficient, specialty software with a stronger ERP solution is not only good for business, it doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. Contact WatServ for more information and guidance when replacing outdated systems with cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Announcing at Envision! WatServ Managed Services for Microsoft Dynamics AX

Announcing at Envision! WatServ Managed Services for Microsoft Dynamics AX

By WatServ
February 6, 2016
Microsoft Corp. on Thursday announced that the next release of its flagship ERP solution, Microsoft Dynamics AX, will be generally available in the first quarter of 2016. The new release, architected for the cloud, brings the power and intelligence of the next generation of cloud computing in an enterprise-class business application to people and organizations worldwide. Microsoft announced that a public preview of the new solution for customers and partners will be available in early December. Revealing the new name of the release, Microsoft Dynamics AX, the company departed from branding that included years or versions of the product to a simple brand that underscores Dynamics AX is a cloud-based service that will be regularly updated. The company will also implement a new, simple and transparent subscription pricing model to make it easier than ever for organizations to purchase the solution in a way that helps them grow at their own pace. “Our ambition to build the intelligent cloud comes to life with apps optimized for modern business, like Dynamics AX,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president, Microsoft Cloud and Enterprise. “When you combine the hyperscale, enterprise-grade and hybrid-cloud capabilities of Microsoft Azure with the real-time insights and intuitive user experience of Dynamics AX, organizations and individuals are empowered to transform their business operations.” This latest release delivers a new, intelligent user experience, optimized to deliver value to organizations by enabling them to make smarter decisions faster. It brings proven business processes to the cloud, which means that the full set of capabilities of this solution will be available to customers from day one. Dynamics AX introduces continuous management services that enable the software to quickly adapt to an organization’s business needs. The new Dynamics AX also harnesses the power of the cloud, giving businesses and people global availability and scale to work anywhere, anytime so they can grow at their own pace and on their terms. A new user experience to accelerate decision-making Businesses are looking to empower their people with tools they want to use and to enable them to make smarter decisions faster. To enable this, Dynamics AX offers a new user experience that looks and works like Microsoft Office and delivers deep integration that seamlessly shares information between Dynamics AX, Dynamics CRM and Office 365. It gives people near-real-time analytics powered by Azure Machine Learning with the ability to visualize data through Power BI embedded right within the application. This gives users not only the information they need, but also predictive capabilities built right in the application. Dynamics AX offers a fully browser-based, new HTML5 client which gives people access to Dynamics AX across platforms and devices and enables organizations to extend and build business-specific mobile applications. Based on extensive usability analysis, the redesigned Dynamics AX brings a new touch-enabled, modern user interface that uses the principles of highly visual applications that users expect in consumer applications to their enterprise business applications. Quicker implementation and easier management ERP systems have traditionally been known for their rigidity, complexity, and slow deployments and implementations. Dynamics AX is changing the game in this area with revolutionary new technology that continuously enhances rather than disrupts business processes and operations. Bringing forward the breadth and depth of proven business processes in horizontal and vertical industries, including retail, manufacturing, distribution, professional services and public sector, the new Dynamics AX brings the complete capability of the product to market on day one and uses the cloud to provide ongoing service and management to adapt to business and industry needs. The new release also introduces enhancements to Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services, an Azure-based service that allows for turnkey deployment with prebuilt, industry-specific solutions available in the Azure Marketplace and automated setup on Azure, empowering customers to deploy faster with higher quality. The new Dynamics AX delivers a more flexible solution architecture that enables incremental implementations, changes and updates, giving businesses more agility and faster time to value. Enabling business through the power of the cloud Businesses are looking for flexibility and choice in how, when, where and at what pace they bring their operational systems to the cloud. Building on the global Microsoft Azure platform, with its strong commitment and capability to meet diverse data locality and data sovereignty requirements, Dynamics AX is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of global customers. The new release brings with it the benefits of the cloud that are most important for business — from simple signup, immediate provisioning, and built-in high availability and disaster recovery to elastic capacity to add resources but only pay for them when they are being used. The Lotus F1 racing team knows firsthand the benefits of Dynamics AX. “The beauty of Dynamics AX is that it will help you make better informed decisions faster, and ultimately increase your business potential to take business operations to the next level,” said Thomas Mayer, chief operating officer, Lotus F1 Team. More information on Dynamics AX and its capabilities can be found in a Dynamics AX blog post from Mike Ehrenberg, technical fellow, Microsoft Dynamics ERP, as well as a blog post from Christian Pedersen, general manager, Microsoft Dynamics Marketing. The following videos and guided tours are also available:
  • Deliver amazing customer experiences

Why You Should Upgrade to Dynamics AX 2012 R3

Why You Should Upgrade to Dynamics AX 2012 R3

By WatServ
June 3, 2014
Just over two months ago, Microsoft issued a major release of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3. This release brought great attention from the audiences at the Convergence 2014 in Atlanta earlier this year, it was released to the public on May 1, 2014. According to the TEI (Total Economic Impact) by Forrester Consulting, comissioned by Microsoft, the AX 2012 software was able to generate an ROI of 92% and a payback period of 21 months. The total benefits amounting to over $6 million during the three year period. Now with the newest version, we are excited to watch these statistics grow even higher. Whichever version you have right now you might be wondering if it is necessary to go through another upgrade.  The positive news is that if you are currently using a different version of Dynamics such as GP, NAV, or SL, Microsoft offers you Transition Investment Credits to switch your license to Dynamics AX 2012 R3. Out of many new features included in AX 2012 R3, we are impressed at the amount of work Microsoft has put into developing AX 2012 R3 so that it runs well on mobile devices. Now users who own a smartphone are able to access data from anywhere, which will increase efficiency. In addition, I have listed a few key features that are included in the newest version and ultimately, the reasons why you should consider upgrading to Dynamics AX 2012 R3. New Technical Capabilities: this includes some new technical features including:
  1. Modern App Work: this allows businesses to develop, manage, distribute and use modern apps. This version comes with some already built-in apps such as AX 2012 R3 Timesheets, Expenses, POS, and more.
  2. Master Data Management (MDM): this is used to manage data across multiple instances of Dynamics AX. MDM supports full and incremental change synchronizations and automatic conflict detection.
Advanced Functional Capabilities: the following list includes the key features in the R3 release:
  1. eProcurement: a module that can be used to improve decision making by defining evaluation criteria and scoring rules for RFPs and RFIs.
  2. Demand Forecasting: you can use this tool to forecast demand based on your historical data.
  3. Warehouse Management: this is a module that bridges the functional coverage gap of the previous AX releases. It includes license plates, cluster picking and additional support for mobile device usage.
  4. Transportation Management: features global transportation planning and execution capabilities.
If you are looking for more details on upgrading your software, please contact us and we will gladly assist you.

By WatServ
March 11, 2013

Waterloo Managed Software Services USA Inc (WatServ) announced today that it has completed a multiple-year agreement with Jiffy International to provide a comprehensive Cloud Computing solution for its critical business systems.
